Pennsylvania – This morning, a federal judge in Texas heard opening arguments in the case of Texas v. United States. This case was brought by 18 Republican attorneys general and threatens the Affordable Care Act, specifically protections for those with pre-existing conditions like cancer, diabetes, or depression. Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner has remained silent on this case, which threatens the care and coverage of more than 5.3 million Pennsylvanians with pre-existing conditions.
“If Scott Wagner cares about protecting the health care coverage of the more than 5.3 million Pennsylvanians with pre-existing conditions, then he must immediately denounce this latest attempt to roll back Affordable Care Act protections and unleash chaos on our entire health care system,” said Beth Melena, communications director for the Wolf campaign. “Texas v. United States is a perfect example of how much Americans stand to lose if Brett Kavanaugh, whose nomination is supported by Wagner, is installed on the Supreme Court and uses his power as a justice to take away our health care.”
Texas v. U.S. Could Roll Back Pre-Existing Conditions Protections. “If the court sides with the Justice Department and strikes down only the mandate and the law’s popular protections for people with pre-existing conditions, insurers could return to denying coverage to such people or charging them more.” [New York Times, 9/04/18]
Wagner: “I Very Much Want To See Obamacare Get Repealed.” “I very much want to see Obamacare get repealed.” [Wagner Tele-Town Hall, 3/09/17]
Wagner Supports Kavanaugh’s Nomination. “Wagner, with running-mate Jeffrey Bartos at his side, tells his interrogator that ‘the answer to that question is that I support President Trump’s pick, and whatever happens in the Supreme– I can’t sit here and predict, I’m not a lawyer. But I’m 100 percent pro-life, and I support the president’s pick.’” [PennLive, 8/07/18]
